How many hours do I need to learn Chinese?
It depends on your goal, your schedule, your effort, and of course, your way of learning Chinese. For example, according to Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) center, the “basic Chinese proficiencies, namely, those who have taken 100 to 800 hours of regular modern Chinese learning”, will be “able to understand simple sentences and express simple ideas and capable of simple communication in his or her daily life and study”. With private instructor and private tutor from ChineseSession.com, you don’t need the 800 hours to get the basic level. We will put an average 200~300 hours for our past students from beginner to Basic level. Of course, you need far more than 200 hours and very hard (yet fun) work to truly master a language, and you need much fewer hours to just get survival level of spoken Chinese.
Please refer http://www.hsk.org.cn/english/Intro_summ.aspx for more information about HSK. If you knew HSK and would like to take a test, we can help you on the application and preparation.
Please remember, even you have mastered the language, it will become rusty if you don’t use it. Try to find any opportunity to practice your newly acquired skill. Or, we have our tutoring service right here for you. Give them a hour or two per week, you can keep your skill shiny, and maybe get a lifelong friendship across the world.
